DNS Records

Select a DNS record type and look up its current values and TTL information for any domain.

What are DNS records?

DNS records are individual entries stored in a DNS zone that describe how a domain or hostname should behave. Each record has a specific type and purpose, allowing DNS to direct web traffic, mail delivery, verification requests and other internet services.

Common record types include A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, CNAME and SOA. Querying one record type at a time is useful when you want to inspect a specific part of a domain configuration without reviewing the entire DNS zone.

How to use DNS Records Lookup

  1. Enter the domain or hostname you want to inspect.
  2. Choose the DNS record type you want to query.
  3. Run the lookup and review the returned values and TTL information.

How to interpret DNS records

A and AAAA records map names to IP addresses. MX records define mail destinations and priorities. NS records identify authoritative nameservers, while CNAME records create aliases from one hostname to another.

TXT records commonly contain SPF policies, ownership verification or service configuration. SOA records describe core zone information such as the primary nameserver and serial number. The TTL determines how long resolvers may cache each response.

Common uses for DNS record checks

  • Verify a recently changed DNS record.
  • Inspect mail, verification or nameserver configuration.
  • Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect record.
  • Check TTL values before a DNS migration.
  • Compare the published value with your intended DNS configuration.
