IP Geolocation Lookup
Enter any IPv4 or IPv6 address to view its approximate geographic and network location.
What is IP geolocation?
IP geolocation estimates the geographic area associated with an IPv4 or IPv6 address. Depending on available data, the result can include country, region, city, timezone, ISP and autonomous system information.
IP geolocation is not the same as GPS location. The address belongs to a network provider or organization, and databases infer its likely geographic use from routing, registration and network information. For that reason, city-level results can be approximate or occasionally incorrect.
How to use IP Geolocation Lookup
- Enter a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address.
- Run the geolocation lookup.
- Review the estimated country, region, city, timezone and associated network information.
Understanding IP geolocation results
Country-level IP geolocation is generally more stable than city-level information. A city value may represent the ISP’s infrastructure, a nearby routing location or the location associated with the address block rather than the exact position of the user.
VPNs, proxies, mobile networks and corporate gateways can make the reported location differ significantly from the device’s physical location. ISP and ASN details can therefore be just as important as the geographic fields when interpreting a result.
Common uses for IP geolocation
- Estimate the country or region associated with website traffic.
- Investigate unfamiliar IP addresses in security or access logs.
- Check whether a VPN or proxy endpoint appears in another region.
- Add approximate geographic context to network diagnostics.
- Compare an IP location with its ISP and ASN information.
